In 2010/11 Buckman’s, Inc. completed the construction of a 804.4 kilowatt solar energy system at our corporate headquarters in Pottstown, PA. The roof-mounted solar array converts sunlight into electricity, supplying power to our state-of-the-art sodium hypochlorite manufacturing facility.
The solar energy system will produce approximately 950,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year from 3,790 high efficiency photovoltaic solar modules. By using electricity from a clean, renewable energy source, Buckman’s Inc will offset 1.27 million pounds of carbon dioxide a year. This is equivalent to conserving over 65,000 gallons of gasoline annually, making our solar energy system the largest in Pennsylvania.
The renewable energy project was made possible in part by a grant from the State of Pennsylvania as well as the Federal Government.
The next time you visit our corporate headquarters, be sure to stop by the main office to view a video screen which displays real-time statistics on the energy produced and the resulting reduction of environmental pollutants.

Recently Buckman's Inc. particpated in a program offered by Peco to help lower our energy consumption. The program combines Peco's expertise with other incentives for companies like Buckman's Inc., helping them analyze the way they use power and identify ways to help them become more energy efficient.
For Buckman's Inc. this invovled upgrading the types of lighting fixtures used in our warehouse and sodium hypochlorite production plant.
Over 80 fixtures were changed from the old style of lighting to newer, more efficient lighting technology. This saves over 43,500 kilowatts annually.
In addition to these changes, motion sensors were added to further reduce our power usage in areas of our warehouse not frequently traveled by our warehouse personnel. |
