Directions for use: Alkalinity Plus (Sodium Bicarbonate)

Low Total Alkalinity can cause corrosion of equipment, etching of plaster, pH bounce, and eye and skin irritation. The ideal range for Total Alkalinity is based upon the type of primary sanitizer used (80-100ppm for sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite or lithium hypochlorite and 100-120ppm for dichlor, trichlor and bromine tablets). The ideal pH range is 7.4 to 7.7.

ADJUST TOTAL ALKALINITY FIRST, THEN ADJUST pH
1½ lbs. of Splash Alkalinity Plus added to 10,000 gallons of water will raise Total Alkalinity by 10ppm.

1. Test the pH and Total Alkalinity of your pool water using a reliable test kit.

NOTE:. If the Total Alkalinity and pH are low (below 7.2 pH or Total Alkalanity below 60ppm), have your water tested for copper and iron before proceeding. Raising Total Alkalinity or pH when metals are present may cause staining or discolored water. If Total Alkalinity and pH are very low (6.8 pH or lower or Total Alkalinity below 50ppm) use Splash pH Plus to raise pH up to a pH of at least 7.2. Then use Splash Alkalinity Plus.

2. Determine the amount of Splash Alkalinity Plus to add. 1½ lbs. of Splash Alkalinity Plus added to 10,000 gallons of water will raise the Total Alkalinity by 10ppm.

3. Add the proper amount of Splash Alkalinity Plus directly to the water with circulation equipment on.

NOTE: Do not add more than 10lbs of Splash Alkalinity Plus per 10,000 gallons of water at any one time. Wait 4 hours and re-test before adding any additional chemicals.

Once the Total Alkalinity is in the appropriate range (80-100ppm for sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite or lithium hypochlorite and 100-120ppm for dichlor, trichlor and bromine tablets), the pH should be adjusted to 7.4 to 7.6. If you have adjusted the Total Alkalinity first, the pH should be close to the ideal range.
